GSM Motorola Droid 3 arrives at the FCC

http://best-Mobile-Handset-mobile-review.blogspot.in/
GSM Motorola Droid 3 arrives at the FCC
Soon after the original Motorola Droid, we saw the Motorola Milestone – an international version of the device. The trend continued with the Droid 2/Milestone 2, and folks overseas have undoubtedly be waiting for their Milestone 3. Now, a GSM Motorola Droid 3 (XT682) has hit the FCC, but isn’t said to be headed overseas just yet, rather to AT&T instead.

In the FCC filing, this GSM version supports 850/1900 bands as well as WCDMA bands II and V. These are the same bands used by AT&T, but doesn’t mean AT&T will launch the device. It’s just possible for them to. It’s odd to see the Droid 3 making a GSM appearance at all when you think about it; the Droid 4 has been out for a while, and the Droid 3 was released around 8 months ago. It may not seem that long, but in 8 months the standard for Android has increased tenfold.

This filing from the FCC makes its release makes it look like we’ll definitely see this Droid 3 variant, but it’s just too early to tell where. When more information leaks on this release, we’ll be the first to let you know. But until then, expect this old QWERTY to arrive soon; if the release is prolonged too long, it will look ancient next to the many quad-core phones that are to be released soon

Nokia World 2012 returns to Finland

TUESDAY, 6 MARCH 2012

http://best-Mobile-Handset-mobile-review.blogspot.in/

Nokia World 2012 will see the company head back to Finland, with the show to take place on September 25 and 26 in Helsinki. Apparently confirmed by Nokia design chief Marko Ahtisaari, Reuters’ Tarmo Virki reports, the show will set the stage for the next phase in the company’s restructuring, after seeing market share and customer interest consumed by rivals like Apple and Samsung. Update: Nokia has confirmed the location and dates

Recent public showings by Nokia have been high-profile. Back at Nokia World 2011 late last year, the company finally unveiled its first Lumia Windows Phones, along with a range of Asha devices targeting “the next billion” users in developing markets. CEO Stephen Elop also promised to have the new devices on the market far faster than Nokia has previously managed.

Meanwhile, at MWC 2012 last week, Nokia not only revealed new Windows Phone models – including its cheapest to-date, the Lumia 610 - but the fruits of five years of imaging research in the shape of the Nokia 808 PureView. Although the 808 runs Nokia Belle, the company has promised the high-resolution technology will soon find its way to future Windows Phone devices.

We’ve asked Nokia for confirmation of the Nokia World plans for this year, but the company tells us it’s not commenting on the dates or location yet. We’ll update when we know more.

Update: Nokia has confirmed the news, with Nokia World 2012 to be held at the Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre. Bizarrely it’s the first time the event will be held in Finland. More details here.

Motorola launches Atrix 2 in India

Motorola launches Atrix 2 in India\

By Nilabh Jha, The Mobile Indian, New Delhi, March 05, 2012
Category: Mobile

At Rs 22,990, this seems to be a very reasonably priced high-end handset with equally appealing specification.

Motorola Atrix 2 is now available in India for Rs 22,990. Though it does not have the best of specifications amongst high end smartphones, but it certainly offers the best for the price.

Motorola Atrix 2 comes with a 4.3-inch qHD display with a resolution of 540×960, 1 GHz dual-core processor, 8 GB internal memory which can be expanded to 32GB, 8 megapixel rear camera and a 0.3 megapixel front camera as well. The phone is based on Android 2.3 OS
Atrix 2 is also compatible with Motorola's lapdock, which is a laptop shaped docking station that has its own battery and screen but uses phones processing power to deliver laptop like experience. Currently this docking station is not available in India, however with the launch of two compatible devices (Motorola RAZR and Atrix 2) in India, we can expect the lapdock to come to our country very soon.

The well designed Motorola Atrix 2 comes preloaded with EA games. At Rs 22,990, this phone is priced in the close vicinity of phones like HTC Desire HD, HTC Radar (Windows Phone), Blackberry Bold 9780, and Samsung Galaxy R.

MTNL struggles in CDMA business

http://best-Mobile-Handset-mobile-review.blogspot.in/

State-run Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Limited (MTNL), struggling to survive in an intense competitive telecom industry, is

charting out the road ahead for its CDMA business. The plan may include closing down its operations in the segment.

The 1986-founded company is in the process of appointing a consultant for formulating the future plan of action for its

CDMA business. A senior MTNL official said the company would decide only after a consultant report on whether it

should go for an upgrade of its CDMA network or must close the segment completely after it shifts users to the GSM

segment. “We will soon appoint a consultant to look into this,” he told Business Standard. It wants to focus only on the

GSM segment.

The company has already decided not to make any fresh investment in the CDMA segment as there is “no growth”, the

official added. It has about 150,000 users on its CDMA platform: Garuda, in Delhi and Mumbai, where it offers mobile

services. However, MTNL’s CDMA users are not able to avail the roaming facility as it is only a limited mobility service.

“We are not seeing any growth in the segment due to the restrictions in the limited mobility service,” the official said.

“Because of this, we have decided not to make any fresh investment currently.”

The company may also go in for a franchisee arrangement for managing its CDMA business, but a final decision will be

taken only after some time.

After a gap of almost two years, MTNL had got a permanent chairman and managing director, A K Garg, in December last

year. The company has been posting losses since quite some time because of retirement benefits, high wage bill and dipping

revenues because of competition in the telecom industry. It has also asked the department of telecommunications (DoT)

to clear a voluntary retirement scheme which will be offered to 15,000-20,000 employees, a third of its workforce.

Already cleared by the MTNL board, the proposal is awaiting nod from the DoT.

The scheme will require the company to make a one-time payment of Rs 2,000-3,000 crore MTNL has asked the DoT to help it

financially to implement the scheme. MTNL, currently, has an employee base of about 45,000. In 1998-99, the company had an

employee base of 61,967, which came down to 44,910 in 2009-10.

The Centre has taken a keen interest in the functioning of MTNL and other loss making state-run telecom PSU BSNL. In

fact, Communications and IT minister Kapil Sibal says he is confident of turning around both the PSUs. He has directed the

DoT to review the performance of both the firms on a monthly basis

BlackBerry Curve 9320 coming to India?

http://best-blackberry-mobile-review.blogspot.in/
Even post-MWC, a glimpse of a new mobile phone is always a welcome sight, and that is precisely what drew our attention towards the BlackBerry Curve 9320. Spotted in the wild, this next BlackBerry is rumored to be among the entrants slated to enhance the company’s Curve range in India.

If the tech world buzz is to be believed, then the new smartphone is composed of a full plastic body. It might also boast of a dedicated BBM key placed on the left half of the keypad. Software specifications reveal the inclusion of the BlackBerry 7.1 OS, which is the recent update to RIM’s smartphone platform and is said to offer better BBM integration.

The phone might not be officially recognized anytime soon, but we still get to take a pretty good look at its tech specs, after the folks over at BGR India showed off some cursory pictures of this fresh handset. According to their report, the device is apparently a 3G enabled variant of a certain Curve 9220. Furthermore, it seems like the camera option also differs when comparing the two gadgets.

As reported by the website, the battery for the prototype lasted for about two days, even after call sessions over the 2G network. Although there is no sure word about it yet, the device may just offer FM radio as part of its entertainment options.

Eager users will have to wait for the BlackBerry Curve 9320 release date and price details until the phone is formally introduced by the company. However, gauging from the probable price of the aforementioned 9220 model, this one might fit within the price bracket of Rs. 12,000, in India.
